Drive D and E gone

HELP! My D and E drive are gone. They are not in "My Computer" or "Device Manager". Dell suggested I install a new mother board due to issues with the integrated sound board? I'm technically challenged by the way. A new mother board was installed on my XPS600 and the following messages were displayed at startup: "Drive 1 not found: Serial ATA, SATA-1, Drive 2 not found: Serial ATA, SATA-2, Drive 3 not found: Serial ATA, SATA-3, Drive 4 not found: Parallel ATA, PATA-0 (IDEl master), Drive 5 not found: Parallel ATA, PATA-1 (IDEl slave). I had a guy look at it and he fixed the messages, however, now my D and E drives are gone. Any suggestions???

Hello JenCA, It would be helpful if we knew how many drives total you have on your system. If we knew, you could enter the BIOS and disable any ports that do not have any drives connected to them and enable any ports that have drives connected to them. It may be just as simple as that. To enter the BIOS and check, just press F2 and arrow key down to drives. They will be listed  on the right. Hope this helps.

OK, the following is listed under drives and in parenthesis is it's status:  Diskette Drive (Internal), Drive 0 (On), Drive 1 (Off), Drive 2 (Off), Drive 3 (Off), Drive 4 (Off), Drive 5 (Off).  Thanks so much!

Hi, Jen:

I believe 4 and 5 are your optical drives. Both of those should be turned on.
